Whitstable House

Located adjacent the Thanet Way and next door to the community-focused Estuary View Medical Centre, Whitstable House offers nursing-led care facilities to those with a variety of needs.

Designed to provide a secure and safe environment, the new three and four storey steel-frame building provides 101 en-suite care bedrooms, a Day Care Centre, communal assisted bathrooms, communal living areas, associated medical care rooms and ancillary staff offices.

Each en-suite room features a kitchenette, directly piped medical gases and a hoist to enable residents to access their wet room. The interiors, designed by specialist Catalyst, have been delivered to be dementia friendly and feature differing finishes across each communal space and floor to aid navigation.

Externally, the main feature of the building is the green wall, designed by Biotecture. The wall features a mix of climber and spreader plants chosen and grown specifically for this scheme. The plants are grown in panel boxes and then installed onto the SFS system. An irrigation system is built into the wall which water the plants 4 times a day for 30 minutes and excess water and rainwater that collects around the window frames is redistributed to the plants adjacent, as these are the ones most prone to drying out.

Additional external works have included a new access road, 69 parking spaces and a comprehensive landscaping scheme.
