The Leas Lift, which first opened to the public in 1885, is one of only eight funicular lifts in the UK and only one of three still operating via water balance. Two passenger cars, each capable of carrying 14 passengers, move between the upper and lower stations and provide an important form of transport between the seafront and Folkestone Town Centre.
Our restoration work will involve bringing the lift back into operation, developing a new upper station area and extending the former cafe.
