At South Essex College in Thurrock we have recently completed works on the second, first and ground floor classrooms. The works for the second floor consisted of forming a new carpentry workshop which was previously situated on the ground floor, this was completed in a 6 week programme.
The works on the new carpentry workshop included knocking down a dividing wall between two classrooms making it into one large area. Re wiring was done on one end of the workshop to suit the new machine layout whilst the other end involved re wiring for some small machines. We built new individual assessment bays and a new tool store. Works also included reconfiguring of the lights to suit the new layout, strip down of all the existing machinery from the ground floor and relocate and build in its new positions, and installation of a new extract system for the dimension saws. In another classroom on the 2nd floor, we refitted some drop down 110volt extensions from the ceiling previously removed from the existing carpentry workshop on the ground floor and relocated some work benches for individual use.
